Don Harris, a survivor who escaped the initial outbreak, is reunited with his two children, who were abroad when the virus hit. However, a terrifying new outbreak occurs within the supposedly secure zone when a hidden carrier of the virus inadvertently triggers its re-emergence. The military's containment efforts fail catastrophically, unleashing a new wave of infected upon the population, leading to an even more brutal and desperate fight for survival as the city once again descends into anarchic horror, threatening to wipe out the last vestiges of humanity.
